Most sheep should be shorn annually in the spring or early summer. Some longer haired breeds may need to be shorn in the fall as well. Hair sheep may or may not need shearing.

Alpacas and llamas should be shorn once per year.

Sheep should be fasted for at least 12 hours prior to shearing. This means they need to be OFF PASTURE, though they can have access to water. Even if you think they can’t eat the grass, they can always find something. If sheep are not fasted they can have trouble breathing and there could be a risk of death.

All animals *must* be dry and should be brought into or near the shearing area the night before or morning of shearing. Sheep should be in stalls, and alpacas and llamas should be enclosed where they can be easily led to the shearing area. Chasing animals around a pasture can stress them out and make them sweaty, both of which impede and increase the risks associated with shearing.

Cash is King!!! I also accept checks, Venmo, and paypal. I do not currently accept credit cards. I can provide an estimate before shearing, but the final bill will be calculated at the end of shearing.

I will do a cursory trim of sheep and alpaca hooves during shearing, but I do not provide any equine hoof care.

Generally, yes. If we have worked together before and established an agreement, it may be possible for me to shear while you are gone.

I might be able to, although there will likely be an increased setup fee. If you are able to pull together other farms near you, it will make the trip more realistic for me.
